Strange Compliment

I received the oddest compliment yesterday! Not like one I have ever received before. But, it was a compliment, so I will take it.

A dear friend of mine, (who by the way lurks around on this blog :-), told me that someone commented to her that I was loosing weight. They asked her if I had had the stomach banding surgery. LOL!! I hope that means I lost a lot of weight fast. If that is what it means, I sure hope this plateau ends soon so I can continue on!!!

So I guess people are noticing. I am still chuckling over this one!!!

  1. Hi Linda, I saw Julie on Aug. 15 and have been back for 2 refreshers-so it's been about 5 months. I was a tight 26-28 when I started her program and now I am comfortably a size 22. I actually had lap band surgery in 2005 and lost 50 pounds in 6 months or so but slowly I started to cheat and the weight crept back on over the years. I have never ever had success on any diet, even surgery, until this program. In fact, I feel like I've been stuck at this size for awhile & I almost don't care. I know that I am no longer pre-diabetic and I believe I can eat like this forever. Your post above made me smile....on New Year's Day I went to a package store for some Vodka. The cashier carded me and said, "Wow, you've lost some weight." Yeah, lots of people have said that to me but that meant something. A total stranger saw it from my license picture which is just my face. I was estatic to say the least! Keep up the great work!!!

    1. Ebastia, thanks for sharing your stories. I love that you were carded. How fun to have a stranger acknowledge your weight loss from your license! I just had my license renewed in Dec. and had a new photo taken, so that won't happen to me for a while.

How fantastic that you're no longer pre-diabetic. My doctor told me a few years ago I was going to be a diabetic at the rate I was going. Six months ago, she said I no longer need to take a test for diabetes.

I also appreciate your sharing about your lap band experience, as that was a route I considered over an over again. If this program wasn't working for me, it was something I would likely have pursued.

I'm so grateful not to have to worry about any of the above any longer. I'm also grateful for you and others who are sharing their inspirational stories and journey on this blog.

    2. Emily thanks for posting your story! I agree with you. I am so happy that the 'food noises' are gone!! That alone makes this whole thing worthwhile to me. So maybe I am loosing slower than the next person, I don't know, but I am loosing and I am happy and am not deprived or starving!!! I am not obssessed with food and for me, that is MAJOR!!! Thank you for posting about lapband, that was one alternative I was thinking about but was to afraid to try as I knew it wasn't going to change my behavior. Keep on posting, it helps so much to hear from others on this journedy as Theresa said!!!!!

  2. I hear ya Linda. I've had some unusual comments as well. At times like that, I try to remember something a friend once told me: take what you need and leave the rest.

One person asked me if I'm starving myself. Good grief. Others have asked what I'm doing and I find most just want a simple explanation. Unless they push for details, I don't say much. Two women came in my office one day after work and raved about my weight loss, then they sat down and asked me to give them all the details, so I did. Otherwise, I thank them for the compliment and breathe in the positive feedback.

    1. Theresa, I find that when people want to know what I am doing, they are really searching for themselves. I always noticed when someone lost weight and I was right there at the front of the line hoping that they did something quick and easy. I have not given out many details at all, about this program as I am afraid people would think that I am trying another crazy thing and wasting more money. I just tell them I am working with a behavior therapist and doing something unconventional. I figure let them wait and see. I don't want to be laughed at.

The ones that care about me and I know I can trust are the ones I talk to about this. (they also lurk on here!!) all the others, they can wait to see what happens for themselves.

2 of my dear friends are doing this along with me. One, started the week after me, doing just what I have filled her in on and she is melting!!! I know this works! and for the first time ever, I know in my mind and my heart that I will reach 'goal'! Never had that feeling before and it is a good feeling!!!

It's so funny as I read this that the ad on the left is for "gastric bypass, no surgery"!! I know there's no control over which ads appear.
A few things i wanted to share: Siggi's yogurt is on sale @ Stop & Shop for $1.50.
Has anyone thought of doing a clothing swap night? It occurred to me the other day as I was giving mine away to a co-worker. (some with tags on them!)
Finally~ did Julie talk to any other classes about what she does with rotisserie chickens? I think i have most of it down, but I'm sure I'm forgetting something.
Emily, the plateau is a good thing.
I saw my weight the other day at the doctor, and while i'm very happy with the loss, I'm worried that I've gone off track by knowing this. Trying not to focus on the number. :-)

    1. Wendy, I saw that ad too! LOL!!

I think a clothing swap night is a GREAT idea! I am actually going through my closet now and weeding out what I have outgrown.

I LOVE siggi's yogurt, thanks for the heads up on that one!

Glad you are happy about your weight. NOW FORGET ABOUT THAT NUMBER AND CONTINUE ON!!!

If you go on to the upper right hand corner of the page, next to your sign in name it gives you 2 more options, one is new post and one is sign out. If you click on new post, you can post a main paragraph to the blog instead of replying to these posts. Just make sure you are signed into your google account! We have to put our heads together to plan a clothing swap night!!!!

    2. I was horrified when I saw the ad. I was able to block those types of ads, so we shouldm't see them anymore! Julie has said if you didn't intend to get your weight, just let it go and you'll be fine.

Really miss seeing new posts. I'm currrently waiting for an appointment and so enjoy the info found here. Just curious, if you're not supposed to read labels, how do you know if there is sugar in a product. Someone had said that you're not supposed to eat anything sweet, but I'm guessing you are allowed some sugar (since Siggi's yogurt does have sugar - and you're not supposed to eat anything diet or sweet) according to an earlier post.

When we avoid reading labels, our conscious mind isn't taking note of the sugar in things like ketchup, which we are allowed. If a product is called "honey-glazed xyz" then we should stay away from it.

When you get to your first session, you'll better understand the sugar rule - nothing sweet to the lips.

I've been sick again, week 4 of a cold, but I will be posting again soon!

Thank you very much Theresa. I called today for scheduling update and was now told it be be late March at the earliest. I will be so much heavier by then probably even tho I am trying. I'm so very sorry you're still under the weather. BTW, I thoroughly enjoyed your breakfast video. I've never drank coffee (just don't like it), but you made even that look inviting. Keep up the good work.

Can someone please reassure me that the plateau that I am on is normal. I know it is and everything Julie said is coming back to me about your body loosing and then healing, but enough already! My body is plenty healed! I don't seem to have moved since Christmas and I have been following the program to the T. Just some words of reassurance and comfort would help. I don't feel that I need a refresher because I am doing all the right things. Help!

I get a lot of questions and compliments at the Dr's office I work at. Generally I really like it because it lets me know that what I am doing is working.
At first a few people teased me about the diet and the cost but once the weight started coming off they became facinated. It actually helped me in the long run, especially around the holiday because people knew not to offer me the fruit that came in our holiday gift baskets. They knew I was meat and veggie only. Then whenever I turned my nose up at the PILES of sweets we had here for over a month everyone was supportive and encouraging!
I stick to this program with out question but I am just dying to weigh myself!! The medical assitants here beg me to write down my starting weight and jump on the scal just so that they can know how much I have lost. I won't do it though because I am afraid to "break the magic" as I always say. It kills me though because I want to know SO bad!

  9. Think about the scale as old technology: outdated an obsolete.
It no longer fits our needs.
It does not measures our success.
It does not define who we are.
Using the scale sets us back.

We are more than the sum on the scale.

Congratulations on your success and thanks for sharing Kristen.

Thanks! I know you are right too. Sometimes I just can't stop thinking about it and other times I don't care. I will think of what you said when I start obsessing. That is the whole reason I love this program, you don't need to obsess :) Kristen

  10. Yes, the plateau you're on is normal! It's all part of the process. Healing is a good thing! If you know you're doing everything right, then that's all you need to do; be gentle on yourself. Remember, we didn't get this size overnight. Once the plateau gives way, you'll feel so great that you'll forget all about plateaus. Keep doing what you're doing - keep up the good work!
