Here's a photo my variation of this recipe, which I topped with chopped olives.

*Always go by what you heard directly from Julie when in doubt about an ingredient, or call the office. Here are two comments about ingredients in this recipe:
Taco seasoning mix - Linda called Julie's office and asked about the taco seasoning mix and was told yes we can have it.
Sour cream - It is my understanding that we can use sour cream.
I am very intrigued by this recipe, but I am a little confused about the taco seasoning mix-Doesn't it have flour in it as a thickener? I have stayed away from it b/c of my "flour concern"-Does anyone remember Julie saying it was ok? (I don't). Jen
ReplyDeleteI called Julie's office and asked about the taco seasoning mix. She said we can have it. I also asked about canned or jarred gravy and that we can not have. I am so glad I called. I don't make the taco dip to often but after you asked about the flour I got worried. So yes, we can have taco seasoning mix. For me, this isn't something I eat to often, just when I really need something different.
ReplyDeleteI called and was told NO. I Google taco seasonING and got a great no flour recipe
DeleteI was very happy to see that taco seasoning is allowed! Hubby is going away over the weekend for business, but, when he gets back, he will be very happy to see that I have added tacos back into our meals! I hadn't made them at all since June 2011, and what a great meal for both of us! He gets the taco shells, and I get everything else! YUM!!!!!
ReplyDeleteLinda thanks for clarifying this detail for us. I will confess, I tend to make my own taco seasoning mix for these kinds of recipes. I love spicy foods, so it's good to know I can use this kind of short cut when needed.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you dip into the taco dip?
ReplyDeleteGood question - I don't dip anything into this, I have a few options
ReplyDelete1. Serve as is for the main dish.
2. Serve it as the main dish on top of handful of spinach (uncooked, but it cooks from the heat of the dip) or lettuce.
3. Serve it as a side dish and dip carrots or celery into it.
I tried this for dinner, and it is absolutely YUMMY!!!!! I am bringing it to work tomorrow!
DeleteHi! This is my first time asking a question on this blog and was wondering if we are allowed to have the organic corn chips that only contain corn, oil and salt........does anyone know the answer to this question? Thank you!
ReplyDeleteMichelle,
ReplyDeleteNo, corn chips (organic or otherwise) are not allowed.
Is sour cream ok to have?
ReplyDeleteTina,
ReplyDeleteWhen in doubt about an ingredient in recipes on this or or any recipe, always go by what you heard directly from Julie.
I've been on this program for almost 3 years and foods allowed on this program have changed over time. If you heard a food is allowed from Julie, then you may have it. If you heard Julie say something is not allowed, then you may not have it.
Also, if you ask to 2 people who were in the same class with Julie, one person may have "heard" something different than the other. You have to learn to trust yourself. If it doesn't sound right to you, find an alternative ingredient or a different recipe.
Some people call the office to clarify ingredients, as Linda did with taco seasonings.
Make your own taco seasoning with chili seasoning, salt, onion powder, cumin, cayenne pepper to taste cause it is spicy hot.
ReplyDeleteSour cream is not allowed and nor is Mexican cheese.
Cottage cheese and Romano/parmasean are allowed. Must be eaten with a meat.
Thank you Meanwell for your feedback.
DeleteKeep in mind that the Key program has evolved over the years, so you should adapt these recipes, as you would for any recipe, to exclude ingredients that were not on program when you attended your sessions.
