Makeover Contest

I read a contest in my Oprah magazine this morning and thought I'd share it with the rest of you, especially those of you who have lost a lot of weight. I know the deadline is close, but I hope a few of you enter, because who couldn't use a jean makeover?

I don't have time to write and essay while on vacation, I hardly have time to write this, but I hope some of you go for it! Here are the details:
Enter the “Denim Style Star” contest for a chance to win a trip to New York City, a NYDJ denim makeover, and a custom photo shoot! Simply upload your photo and write a brief essay describing why you should win. One winner will receive:
  • A trip to NYC with one guest
  • A denim makeover by stylist Dale Sudakoff, founder of Dalestyle, Inc.
  • An opportunity to model NYDJ’s latest fall fashions in your own photo shoot
  • Images will be featured on Real Simple Offers Facebook page and NYDJ.com
Meanwhile, I'm still in Carlsbad, enjoying a relaxing visit with friends. Vacations are a great thing! I packed two tops that are way too big for me and those size 18 carpi's are tighter than I would like them to be, but all is well otherwise.

  1. I'm very confused about the exercise issue. In reading your posts re: refresher classes, some of you hae mentioned how Julie can give you the desire to exercise. I'm been faithfully following the program for 5 months and want to start with the exercise but can't get motivated. However, when I called the office, I was told that Julie does not do that - she only addresses the food issues. Did I misinterpret what some of you were reporting? I was speaking to a seasoned office worker who also doubled checked my request and called me back so I can be reasonable assured that what she told me is Julie's position on the matter.
Needless to say, I passed on the refresher since she can't give me the one thing I need, but I very disappointed and confused, especially after Lina now says that she is an exercise phenom. Any suggestions?

  2. When I went to my first refresher last September, I asked her to add exercise, and she said ok. Now, it took me two months to join the gym, lol, but I did do it. I now exercise 5-6 days a week. Maybe the office misunderstood you? I don't know. That seems odd they would say no to you.

  3. Hi Mary, when I went to my refresher I told her I needed to start getting in exersize. She told us she gives that to everyone. I know Theresa has said that also and so have some of the others on here and on face book. I will be honest, it hasn't hit me yet. That first week I was doing stuff, but now, no where near what I had been doing. My activity level is right where it has always been. Maybe I have'nt found what I like, I have no idea. Anyway, sorry for the confusion. All the other stuff is working like a dream for me, but not her suggestions of exersize. I can not answer for the answer you got at the office, this is from my experience only.

  4. Thanks Linda so very much for responding. I guess it was too good to be true (now, if only we could just pay people to exercise for us - LOL). I, like you, have never strayed from the program, but the skin is heading south and I was hoping to head it off, but just can't get motivated... You look wonderful and I realy appreciate all your insight. I'm not on facebook (and actually don't wish to be) so hopefully this blog doesn't slow down too much. I'm thinking that a lot of people are on vacation and just too busy to post. I, for one, love hearing and seeing everyone's progress. Once again, thank you so much.

  5. I think alot of people are on vacation also Mary, plus outside more with the weather being so beautiful. We will try to keep it active.

Meaghan thanks for your input! That gives me hope that it may still kick in.

  6. Someone once said "if you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got".

I've been faithful too and it took me 3 months to start and find the exercise bike works best for me and I literally say this phrase every time my mind starts making excuses. I always have a show on the DVR to watch and went from 3 miles to 10 miles at least 5 times a week. The key is to find something you like or switch it up so it's not boring

I also want to add that I just came back from a week at the beach and had no troubles staying on track. I had a hard time in one restaurant when I asked for double veggies instead of a potato and the server came back to say that the veggie cost more than the potato/fries...the veggie served was 1/2 ear of corn and it didn't even look good so I skipped that too.

  7. Mary, I didn't stat to exercise until 10 months after startimg the program, but when I did, I took to it like a fish in water. She had given us the exercise mojo at the start of the summer, but it didn't take for me the first time around. Once I started though, I was hooked. My body feels great after exercise and I like th energy it gives. me.

The one motivating story for me was when Julie told a woman she doesn't have to exercise, but if she doesn't exercise, it will take her a really long time to lose her weight.

  8. Thanks everyone; and, Theresa - hope you're enjoying your vacation. Now I'm a little more confused though. When you mention the exercise "mojo" does that mean the she CAN put the exercise bug in your head, or cannot like the office said. Do we just have to want to do it and have the extra energy like they told me when I called, or is there really something that Julie CAN and is WILLING to do for us?
Sorry, if all this line of questioning is too much - it's just that they told me at the office that she ONLY deals with the food issues so we agreed that I did NOT need a refresher class since I only wanted the EXERCISE THANG!!! Oh My...

  9. Hmmm. I told her I wanted exercise. She said ok. She said she puts it in everyone, but I guess a bit stronger in me. I don't quite remember. Like I said, that was September, and I didn't join the gym until November.

And if you can believe this...lol...I'm going on vacation with my husband next week and I was googling gyms in the area we are staying in. Ha! Trust me-that is/was NOT me!!
