Positive Changes (silly one) BUT positive

The past few months I have noticed every time I get into my car, I have to move the seat up!! What in the world!!!

In the past, even when my husband drives the car I have never had to move the seat up, and if so, it was just a tiny bit.

I am getting aggravated and annoyed with him, can not even imagine why he would put the seat so far back lately!!

Today I got into the car and AGAIN, I had to move the seat up. So as I sat there fiddling with stuff getting ready to move my seat up I happened to notice something.

Something that made me smile and laugh out loud!

My stomach wasn't hitting the steering wheel anymore! WHAT!!!!

When my husband has been getting into the car, he is putting the seat back into it's normal position that we always used, AND I AM THE ONE MOVING IT TO A WHOLE NEW POSITION!!

I need the seat closer to the pedals and the steering wheel as NOTHING is getting in the way anymore! (or at least not as much is getting in the way now).

I am actually needing to be closer to the steering wheel as I am not taking so much room up on the seat!!

WHO WOULD HAVE EVER THOUGHT!!!

(I am hoping to start pointing out some NON weight loss changes in a few posts. That may help us to all realize that it isn't just about the weight loss, though that is the BEST part, but for some of us slow losers, we need to look at NON weight loss positives, no matter how silly they may seem)

Oh and by the way, even with the seat up where it is comfortable for me to drive, I want to announce: MY STOMACH IS STIL NOT HITTING THE STEERING WHEEL!!!

  1. Linda, this is a funny story! I have had similar experiences and it's a great idea to share these quirky stories.

A big one for me was seat belts. I used to attach a clamp so the belt would stay fully extended and I wouldn't feel like I was choking every time I drove.

About 6 years ago, a friend gave me a clamp, but before then I drove with my thumb under the seat belt so I wouldn't choke. I couldn't endure this for 2 hour road trips, my thumb and arm grew tired of the position, so I let go and choked the rest of the way.

    Wow.

I've had the same experience!! My legs are quite short, and I drive a manual transmission, and so I was always having so stretch my legs way out when I started the car, to depress the clutch fully. A couple of months ago I was wondering why it had gotten so much easier. Well, I had had my car worked on, the mechanic, of course, adjusted it to his 6' frame, and when I got in I adjusted it to where it was comfortable and since there is so much less stomach, it is a lot closer than it used to be.

Another funny one is that I kept wondering why my cat was clawing at my collar bones when he sat on my lap. He never used to do that. Finally I realized that he was used to having a nice large midriff to hold him up and now he feels like he's slipping. Have a bunch of claw marks in my chest, but hey, it's still positive.

  3. I had an AHA moment today as well! I was at Staples trading in my CO2 cartridge for my SodaStream-I park quite a ways away now whenever I go shopping. Every extra step helps!

I get my cartridge, leave Staples, and start walking to my car. The parking lot is pretty full! Straight ahead, in front of me, are two cars in the parking lot that are parked VERY close together. As I am getting closer, I do a double take, even do a stutter step-"Can I get through there?" "I can't get through there!" WAIT! You are a size 6 now! Go ahead! I dare you! What? Oh!! I fit!! With room to spare!

    I love aha moments....

Would someone be kind enough to address this for me? I always thought that as long as we ate more meat than veggies we were all set. However, I'm losing very slowly also, and although I never eat more veggies than meat (and sometimes JUST meat), I think that I might be eating too much. I only eat when I'm hungry, but I eat a lot of meat and I'm wondering that since it does still have calories, could this be a reason for not losing quickly. I know Julie said that you have to eat more protein to lose fat, but I think portion control is still a concern. Comments would be appreciated.

    1. Anonymous, I can't say why some lose weight faster than others, but this is not a race. Keep doing what you're doing and your weight will continue to drop. This is not like other "diets" and we don't need to worry about calories. Focus on staying in the river (eating only foods on program) and your weight will come off.

Don't focus on the fact that you are losing weight losing weight slowly. Instead, celebrate that you are losing weight!

I do recall Julie saying that your stomach is only the size of your fist (so I'm assuming we don't need that much food to be full). I know it's unlike any other diet, however, does that mean that as long as I'm sticking to all of Julie's rules that I am following the program? It just seems as though portion control should matter. I remember her saying that if you observe most people at restaurants, you will notice they are over eating. I know this seems a little absurb, but do you mean for example, I could eat an entire prime rib for breakfast, a whole chicken for lunch and a pork roast for dinner (and as long as I did not overdo the veggies) that I would still be on program an lose as much weight as I would if I kept my portions smaller? Not trying to be a smart alec here -- just sincerely would like some honest info.

    3. Hi anonymous! I remember her saying the same thing.

But I also remember her saying, she didn't care how much meat we ate, to just eat meat!! So to answer your question, I think there is a fine line.

Maybe to much fatty meats slow things down (bacon, sausage, hotdogs, pepperoni etc) I have to really take the time and think as I am eating to see if I am really still hungry or not.

Sometimes I find myself eating the meat just because I can and I know that isn't right.

I have to be more in tune with my body to really know when I am hungry and to know when to stop.

I do remember Julie saying also, our bodies will use up what it needs and the rest we just 'poop' out.

I know I didn't really answer your question, you may want to call the office to see what they say. If you do call them, could you post what they say, I would love to hear the answer to this!!

Linda - thanks so much. I try not to eat any of the fatty meats, but I think I am just eating too much meat "because I can" also. I don't believe that I'm always hungry when I eat. I did call the office and they said I should book a refresher to ask Julie about the amount of meat so I may do that. Meat is too expensive to just "poop" out (lol). Thank you so much for your input. It helps to know that I am remembering things correctly.

    5. Feel free to email me, if you click on my name it should pull up my address. Support is so important on this program, at least to me.

When you go for your refresher, please let us know what she says!! Sometimes I wish I could go to a refresher weekly!!

I agree, meat is to expensive to just "waste" LOL!!!!!

  7. Anonymous, eat when you are hungry, stop when you are full. If you would feel better eating a little, then try it. You can always eat again if you are still hungry. Some days I eat a lot, some days I don't. I have been at goal for a little over two years now. I never worry about portion control. If I eat a lot at lunch, I'll probably not be too hungry later, so I think that evens things out. Just keep doing what you are doing and don't over think things. Remember Julie also said that it takes time for our bodies to heal on the inside as well. It's hard to be patient but the results are forever if you hang in there! Good luck!!

  8. Here's a positive change happening in my house: ever since my husband went to Julie, I no longer find food in my bed!! Yes, he used to get up in the middle of the night and get snacks, then fall asleep before eating them! One night, when I rolled over, I got hit in the face with a peanut butter cracker!! Silly, but big!!
