Be Happy

Earlier this week a blog comment came into my inbox that I wasn't sure how to respond. I approved the comment, which posted to a blog post from May 2012. I decided it was a great question to ask myself: What is wrong with you people - be happy u are down 2 or 3 sizes.
I'm happy to fit into three new pair of size 18 jeans!
I am very happy with my success, but it's true - there are times I complain "when is more weight going to come off?" In fact, I wined about this a just few weeks ago and I've dropped seven sizes. I embrace this question. I accept the challenge! My old ways of thinking have been with me for a long time. Changing how I think takes time, but I am working on this change.

It's easy to get caught up in wanting to be further along in our weight loss journey and to lose sight of the fact that this process takes as long as it takes. We want the weight to come off faster (as in NOW). Our weight didn't come on overnight and it isn't going to come off overnight. We don't want plateaus, but plateaus are a sign that our body is healing. This is a good thing. Plateaus may last a few weeks or even a few months. Meanwhile, we don't need to beat ourselves up because it's taking so long.

We're all learning to have patience with this process, to keep applying what we're learned in the classes, and to remember that this weight loss isn't the fast fix other programs promise us. If we stay the course, we will reach our goals.

In answer to the question, yes, we are happy that we're down 2 or 3 sizes (or more), but sometimes we get in our way and lose sight of what we have achieved. Nothing is wrong with us. We're learning to keep things in perspective, it's all part of the process.

Thanks for the humble reminder to be happy about our success.

  1. I thought it's ok to post my journey to your blog, Theresa, because I fell off, got impatient and now I'm back. You are so right.
OK, here is my story … It was the summer of 69, no wait! It was the summer of 2009.  That’s when I met Julie Ann and it changed me for the better. A colleague from work had lost a ton of weight and I asked her how she did it. This colleague, let’s call her Betty, just survived lung cancer, but had gained weight due to the treatments, etc. She was struggling with different diets to lose the weight unsuccessfully. When she talked to her Oncologist about it, he told her about Julie Ann and Key Hypnosis. Betty signed up and lost a ton of weight and felt great. When I asked her how she did it, she told me about Julie Ann. So, I went, lost about 2 dress sizes almost effortlessly and felt great. People commented on my weight loss and I told them. Over the years I gained some of the weight back because I fell back into my old habits and I started to weigh myself again. I was still 20 pounds less than when I started with Julie. On 12/3 my knee hurt when I walked downstairs and I got so angry at myself, because I did it to myself (again). My body hurt knees, hips and feet. Something snapped inside of me. I sat down and made an effort to breathe calmly and relaxed. I thought of Julie, her movements and her instructions. It worked! I’ve been back on the plan since, but I had tremendous help from the blog and Theresa. My clothes fit again, well, there are still some of I have to squeeze myself into but I am on my way. I don’t weigh myself anymore but I can feel the weight coming off. Well, that’s about it on my side. I am looking forward to get to know you all and I am happy to lend a helping hand where needed. I wish you continuing success.

  2. Trudy - thanks for sharing your story and congratulations on your success!

It's always great to hear from someone who has been able to get themselves back on program the way you describe.

I would love for to you become a blog contributor. As a contributor, you are not obligated to anything, it just gives you the freedom to post a story that appears in the left navigation instead of only being able to add comments. Plus, you can add photos too.

If you'd like to become a contributor (or anyone else reading this), reply to this comment and provide me your email (I won't post your comment). Then I'll send you an invite via email from the blog.

It's always nice to have others sharing on this blog!

It's all relative.. I know you are happy and you should be , your doing fantastic. I said the comment out of frustration with this very cold weather and just starting this program. All I want is to drop 2 or 3 sizes so I was only thinking of the current situation and struggle I was going through at the moment. I've gotten through it now thanks to your replies and this blog and hearing Julie.. Just need some sun and warmth , I'm not a winter person. I saw you went to Sarasota Fl , that's exactly where I would love to be all winter but with 2 young kids that's on hold for a good 10 years. I'm looking forward to grilling kabobs of meats and veggies soon . Unsweetened ice teas with lemon by the pool will also be nice.. I'm wondering if I'm being to strick with myself sometimes, think ill have a chicken sausage today to break up the lean meat only thing for today anyway. Thanks again for all your help and this blog. I'm not on Facebook but I'm thinking of joining just to get some more recipes and stuff.

hi anonymous...i too like the chicken sausages.have you tried boiling a whole chicken and using the shredded meat for chix salad with celery mayo and curry? can eat in a lettuce leaf. Try not to get discouraged...remember julies words and write down and review her rules..i keep them on my smartphone.sometimes it helps me to go to her website and watch her videos with her hand movements. Keep up the good work...it is a journey with bumps...dont let the bumps worry you.you are not alone.

Ps attribute it to a baby fit or mental breakdown; brought on by giving up sweets, breads, nuts, seeds , yogurt, red wine ect. Compiled with being an outdoor girl trapped inside because it is zero degrees outside. I'm sure things will get better it could always be worse I know. I was having a brief pity party and now I'm mad at myself that I did. ESP. Since I am not homeless and I'm healthy. Shame on me..
