When my inner child wins, a short amount of time after I have the two yogurts, I fall asleep on the couch and I wake up feeling hungover, as if I'd had too much to drink. This used to happen to me after I ate too much sugar, so it seems like a food allergy. This doesn't happen when I eat one yogurt, so I try to remind my inner child of this when she acts out. When she wins, I stop having yogurt for a while. Then I win!
When I have an extra yogurt, or too much cheese, I'm playing with what I refer to as "grey areas." In reality, there are no grey areas on this program. Once I came clean with myself about this, I realized such "grey areas" were the cause of my long plateaus. I'm still working on the cheese issues, but last summer I put an end to eating too much Siggi's, by implementing a couple of rules:
- Only buy 1 or 2 yogurts at a time. The program allows for 1-2 per week and I pass my quota if I buy more.
- Only buy yogurt on the weekend. This helps me keep track of how much I eat.
What do you do to turn down the (food) volume?
BTW, I was on the Siggi's website and I discovered what may be the reason why Siggi's is allowed on this program: it has 2-3 times the protein count of standard yogurt.
Skyr is the traditional yogurt of Iceland. It is made by incubating skim milk with live active cultures. The whey, the water naturally found in milk, is then strained away to make for a much thicker, creamier, concentrated yogurt. So to make just one cup of skyr, with all that water going out, you need 3 - 4 times the amount of milk required to make a regular cup of yogurt. As a result of this process skyr comes out with 2-3 times the protein count of standard yogurt.
I am a smoothie out of mine sometime, add some 1% milk, ice, spinach or kale, and blend...it's delicious. Occassionally I add some cinnamon. Anne Marie
ReplyDeleteHmm, I've never had a smoothie with spinach or kale. Are the veggies raw or cooked?

DeleteIt is sooooo delicious . Have about 8 of them in my fridge hope it can control myself. It does look nicer in the glass dish , almost like ice cream. Speaking of ice cream I may try and make some vanilla out of cocco nut milk , ice egg yokes and vanilla, maybe a bit of ginger also. Idk could be good or not.
ReplyDeleteYes, it does look nicer in the dish, but mine never makes it! Watch the expiration dates on the yogurt. I've heard from others they aren't nice tasting once the date expires.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I'm pretty sure coconut milk is not allowed on program during the weight loss phase.
Well it was more like ice milk haha probably a lack of fat in it but it was ok. Maybe next time ill use a yogurt in it then freeze it for a bit. Probably as bad as my cheese habit idk. No sugar though . Very low fat also except for the 1 egg yolk.
ReplyDeleteIt's these kind of little things I "allow" myself, that I was referring to in my post, that lead to long plateaus and prolong my weight loss journey. If I'm ever going to reach my goal, I need to stay in the river, on program.
DeleteI know this topic has been discussed previously, but I need some help. I'm in my 60's although I always had a very youg face and people would guess I was in my 30's or 40's. Now, that I have lose substantial weight (I'm estimating, as I've been following the program to a "T" for over a year) I have a lot of excess skin. It's kind of sad for this is the first year I would be able to wear shorts when the weather gets hot, but now I won't be able to because my thighs, legs and knees have become very flabby and wrinkled. I also have this problem on my arms (upper and lower). So, I guess it will be long pants and 3/4 length sleeves for me (even on hot days). The one thing I can't hide is my face. It's really beginning to fall and become more and more wrinkled day by day. This is definately a direct result of the weight loss. I can't afford surgery and probably would not go that route even if I could. Please respond only if you are older, as I feel this has a lot to do with this problem. I have been overweight my entire life and only wish that I had found Julie earlier in life when extreme weight loss would not have affected skin elasticity as much. I see before and after pictures of her success stories, but they all seem to look fantastic. I'm so proud of Theresa and Linda and they both look fantastic. Theresa even showed us her picture in the hot tub and Linda just bought 2 bathings suits for vacation, so you know they don't have this problem. However, if anyone does, please, please share some insight. I know I'm healthier than I was with the weight on (and I need to lose more), but sometimes it's hard to be excited about the weight loss when my self esteem has taken a dive. This seems so counter-productive since I always felt that losing weight would make me feel great and with these body part problems, it hasn't. Also, my neck is pretty bad as well. I guess I was pretty much packed with fat and now I'm not, but this is very devistating. Any comments, suggestions, ideas or solutions would be greatly appreciated.
ReplyDeleteWHERE CAN YOU GET SIGGI'S LOCALLY?I'm in Northern CT
ReplyDeleteHi Laurie! I am in Northern CT and get it at Big Y or stop and shop. Big Y at this time has the coconut which is the real popular one. I like all the flavors, but remember only twice a week at the most and with MEAT!!!!
DeleteSometimes Stop n Shop has Siggis in a different part of the dairy than the rest of the yogurts, so follow the cold isle around the corner if you don't see them or ask in the store where they are. If they don't have them, you can ask the store manager to consider carrying them.
DeleteWe really should be looking into buying stock in this company!
I have found it at every Big Y with other yogurts and at Whole Foods and at Stop Shop in their health food section (not with regular yogurts).
