Party Girl

So, it’s that time of the year again. Another year older, but I refuse to look at it this way. I celebrate pretty much the whole month. Yep, I am that type of person, where’s the party? But, as we are all aware of, sometimes a little bit of overindulgence.

I remember Julie saying, when celebrating, or on vacations, sacrifice will lead to a bigger weight loss. I am proud to say that so far I am doing really good by sticking to the plan. For instance, last night in the Restaurant I wanted to order something I never had before. It was a Portuguese dish, including muscles, shrimp and pork with rice. I know that one of my favorite Portuguese dishes “Paella” comes with rice.

What’s a girl to do? I asked the Waitress, to ask the Chef if it can be prepared without the rice, and to double up on the veggies. The meal was delicious. So, don’t hesitate to ask your server. More than likely the Wait staff and Chef’s are happy to accommodate you.

I have to confess that last Saturday, dinner at a friend’s house, was more complicated. I did the best I could, but I wonder what I actually ate. We had Cheese & Crackers (I did not eat a cracker), stuffed mushroom caps. I had some of those. I am guessing there were some breadcrumbs in there somewhere, but I didn’t ask. I was hoping if I don’t know it, it won’t hurt me. There was no meat of any kind or veggies. So, I ate some cheese and stuffed mushrooms and I feel guilty and worried since.  For the main meal we had delicious roasted Turkey with veggies (she prepared Cole Slaw for me, which I love), but the French Meat stuffing had little bits of potatoes. I loved it, but was very aware of the potatoes.

Oh, I am not done yet. The party continues right through next week. I promise to be on my best behavior. My clothes still fit, so that’s a good sign. Don’t you agree?

  1. GREAT post Trudy!!! Is this your birthday month???

Some meals are VERY difficult when we have no control over stuff. I do the best I can also. I don't ask, but if it obviously has something I won't touch it.

We went away overnight with the grandkids and my daughter and son in law to a hotel with a pool, close to home, just to do something different in the winter. We ate out, I did great, then got back to the hotel and was very hungry for some reason. Of course nothing was around I could eat except for some cheddar cheese. I fought it as long as I could and ate cheese. I was as hungry as if I hadn't eaten supper. Never had that happen before. But I ate the cheese, knowing it was better than any other option. So for the next week it will be meat, meat and more meat, with veggies as my condiment. The guilt is horrid, but I know I didn't cheat.

    We continue on!!!

Welcome to life as a contributor!!!!

    2. Happy birthday Trudy!

Parties can be challenging. We do our very best and we learn what to do next time to make it work better for us.

Ideally, we should be able to bring something to the party. It's especially difficult when you're at a house where the hostess is insulted if you bring anything. That happened to me a couple times in Florida. The hostess is a friend of the people I was visiting with, so next time I'm going to pass on the party.

Nice to hear your story here. Birthdays are about celebrating life, so be good to yourself along the way and have a blast.

I eat cheese all the time and I'm still losing weight. I also eat a TBSP of virgin cocco nut oil per day and it definitely increases my ketosis. I think Julie was wrong to put limits on the fat we eat. According from countless hours of research on atkins forums and ketosis web sites. Happy Birthday month and don't sweat the small stuff.

    1. We all make choice on our journeys.

Cheese processed through our system very slowly. I stop losing if I eat too much cheese and I eat "too much cheese" on a regular basis; it's my new "chocolate."

But I definitely reached a point in my journey where I had to back off and use cheese as a condiment (as Julie suggests). Weight started dropping again, so what Julie says works for me.

I have a lot more weight to lose, so I tend to follow Julie's rules. When I reach my goal size and am able to maintain that for a couple years, then I'll tweak my program.

Best to you on your journey.

  3. Thank you both so much! I wish you have a happy Valentine's Day! I am usually better prepared to bring stuff to the party, but I was just kind of "off" that day. I've moved on and I am getting ready for the next party. :) Told you, I'm a hopeless party girl. Don't get me wrong, to me Party means mostly to be with good friends. Sit, talk, eat, laugh. I live for that. Oh Theresa, you've probably noticed that I did (finally) figured out how to post the right way. I'm on my way, thanks to you.

Anyone know what's going on with Julie Ann Kibe? Seems she's having a health problem. Hope she's alright. Geez. Poor women. Looking at her guest book page , is how I saw this. Thanks

    1. I understand Julie is having surgery this week, but I don't have full details. She has had a difficult time talking for many months and this surgery was planned. I don't know more than this.
