Brick Wall

This question was posted from Anonymous:
I think I am hitting a Brick Wall. It seems my weight Loss has gone way down since the start. I have not gone off the program once whether it be Carbs or Sugar, but not seeing any new results. What is the average time it would take to lose 80+ pounds??? I am changing things up daily but I may be eating a little to much at each sitting. If anyone can offer help that would be great. Thanks in advance for any help given.
I have no idea how long it will take an average person to lose 80+ pounds. I've probably lost that much weight by now and I started in Jan. 2011. So, for me it's taken a year and a half. I've lost my weight over a longer period of time than others who have posted here and sometimes I get all caught up in my head about this. The good news is I stay off the scale and I keep getting a better understanding of what to eat and what not to eat. I feel healthier than I have in years.

I get frustrated that I'm not losing faster, but I'm losing and as long I'm continuing to drop weight, it's going to take as long as it takes. I have to keep my frustration at bay. I've been wanting to drop from this size 20 pants for months. But a few months ago I was elated at being able to wear a size 20! This morning I put on size 18's and they zipped up. I still can't go out of the house in them, but they didn't zip up before this. This keeps me motivated to continue.

Reading about others success here keeps me going too. I continue to get out of my own way so I can succeed. Some days are easier than others at staying out of my way, but the day passes.

I haven't exercised in a few weeks due to an Achilles heel issue and I haven't taken this down time as an opportunity to try other exercise options. This is just how it is today. Next week I committed to a work exercise program for 6 weeks. This comes at just the right time, to help me move to action back. I love these kinds of opportunities.

In my experience, none of us lose at the same rate. How long it takes doesn't matter. What matters is that your weight does comes off when you stay the course and from there you learn how to maintain you weight for the rest of your life. You're asking all the right questions, looking to see if there are things you are eating that you shouldn't.

What words of wisdom do the rest of you have for anonymous about hitting a brick wall?

I feel constantly at a plateau but then all of a sudden I seem to be a little smaller. It's a little like watching a clock. We never actually see the hands on the clock move but then all of a sudden we notice that time has moved on. My experience with Julie has been relatively slow but every time I think I have stopped loosing I realize that my clothes are getting a little looser! now my question is - what if i want to go smaller than the initial size I stated way back when, when I was wearing my tight size 16p pants and I was praying to get into a size 10. Being a now very comfortable size 8 pants I realize that I still have a ways to go and a size 4/6 is no longer a fantasy! So my dilemma is - do I go back to readjust my goal size or can I do this on my own with self-hypnosis?! Has anybody had this experience and what have they done? Thank you, thank you for all the good information - it is so useful.
My husband has just returned home from his first session with Julie - already a convert and ready to hit the ground running!

  2. I said I wanted to be a size 10-12 when I first started. I went to my second refresher and said...an 8. Well, I'm there. And I go off and on the diet. And I work out 6 days a week. My size 8 are loose, and I just bought a size 6 pants-that I buttoned and zipped! It definitely was not pretty, and I wont wear them in pubic anytime soon, but they were on!

So-I've done that on my own having gone off for various reasons. You can totally do it on your own.

My plan is to keep working at it. I'm happy in an 8. I looked in the mirror today and said, "damn. I look good. I don't have to be a six, I think an 8 looks great." So I'm going to work on it throughout the next few weeks and maybe set up a refresher for late July, get rid of 5 lbs, and go about maintaining the right way.

  3. I wrote a blog post about, (gulp) my worst attribute: Patience.

    April 11, 2012 The P word

I do not have alot of patience and I get so frustrated when I see people just melting away on this and I am not. Somedays I can accept I am not a melter, and other days I frustrate myself.

It truly boils down to Patience for me. I KNOW I am doing it right, I KNOW I am eating the right foods. I KNOW the weight will come off. Patience and confidence in myself.

I also use the fist visual now. Amazing how much food I used to eat compared to how much I should eat. I did a blog post on that also:

Also the fatty meats I am concentrating on. I am fine tuning and waiting.

Concentrate on your successes, concentrate on your positive changes, look at where you were and where you are. That all helps!

YOU CAN DO IT! We just need PATIENCE!!!
