My trip survival!!!

As most of you know, I went to Texas last week to visit one of my sisters, my brother and a niece. I haven’t seen my sister and niece in along time so it was quite nice to spend time with them! I have a great husband to encourage me to do that!!!

They did notice my loss so I was excited about that!!

At the airport I got a steak, mushroom and cheese grinderless grinder! Delicious! All through the week, when I would order something without the breading/chips/bread or whatever and got a funny look or comment, I would just tell them I am allergic , then I would tell them I just blow up like a balloon!!! Good for laughs and of course as soon as you tell someone allergies, it all comes together for them

At Walmart by the check out I found beef jerky with dipping sauces. Beef jerky comes with bar-b-que sauce, beef sticks come with cheese sauce and chicken jerky comes with ranch and hot wing sauces. All are good. I had the beef and bar-b-que one on the plane! Highly recommend them!!! Great to keep in the car or in your pocketbook.

I also found in Texas at a Mexican grocery store, Salt and vinegar pork rinds!!!!!!!!! OH MY GOODNESS!!!!! I bought 'em all!!!

While in Texas we ate out 1 meal a day and I had a ball!!! We ate at a fried chicken place, I pulled off every bit of skin and coating and I must say it was soooooo good!!! We ate a lot at Mexican restaurants and those were easy. I got fajita-less fajitas!!! Really good!! I have not found one restaurant yet that I can not eat at!!

We did a lot of shopping and hit many estate sales. I needed to borrow a huge suitcase from my brother to bring home everything I bought.

I felt good. The heat didn’t bother me like it did last year. I could walk and breathe. BIG accomplishment from last summer.

And of course I did a lot of visiting with my family!!

A GREAT food alert: Aldis!!! If you have an Aldis nearby and you like mussels, you HAVE to get these!!! They are 1 pound frozen precooked in the chest freezer. They are either tomato and garlic or garlic and butter. OH MY!!! I got my niece hooked on them!!! When I got home I went and stocked up on more of them!! One box is a great meal and quite filling!!! The tomato garlic ones my husband puts over spaghetti, which naturally I don’t eat and DON’T miss!!! I HIGHLY recommend these. All of a sudden Aldi’s is going to be going through these things like crazy, they won’t know what is going on!!! LOL!!

Food wise, my trip was EXTREMELY successful and the best part, I didn’t have to think about food, worry about food and agonize over food!! I LOVE this plan and the freedom!!!!

  1. Congratulations on having a wonderful vacation and staying on program Linda! It's fabulous that you had such a positive experience away from home and it's reaffirming for the rest of us that we too can vacation and stay on program.

Thanks for the tip about Aldis Mussels.

I know from other friends following this program that this journey varies for each of us. Some drop weight month after month and go straight to their ideal weight; while it's a slower process for others.

One of my friends went off program while she was on vacation and she has been "struggling" ever since. She shared with me how she feels about being off-program vs when she is on program; of course the later feels much better. She has lost a lot of weight over the year that she has been going to see Julie, despite going off several times. She's going for a refresh in June. For her,the refresh brings her back on course and to dropping weight again.

Regardless of whether your journey is a zig-zag or a straight line from overweight to your ideal size, this program offers us a way to reach our goal and then maintain it. How long it takes us really doesn't matter. Choosing to eat healthy foods again and again will bring us to our goal.

Keep up the great work Linda and thanks for sharing.

  2. It was wonderful seeing you the other day Linda!!!! You look fantastic!!! And thanks for sharing the pork rinds. I just wanted to tell you too that you looked so wonderful after coming back from vacation, because you proved to yourself that you do not have to "suffer" on vacation, that no matter what, we can go places, and the food doesn't talk to us. You are an inspiration, and I am lucky to call you friend!!!!!

Thank you for posting about your vacation - it is reassuring to hear others having success even while not in the comfort of our own home or area. I just wanted to pass along, and this may be a faux pau - but I actually called the office asking about pork rinds and was told they are a NO GO - to stay away from them and to consider how they are made, they're processed and much less authentic than we're led to believe. SO - while I know they are delish and a great way to eat things like dip etc...per Julie's office they're off the list. I'll pass along a helpful hint I've used for dips and things like that: artichokes. One of my favorites is to steam and artichocke and use the leaves like "chips" when having sausage dip or taco dip. Have it as your meal of course, not as a snack. ~ Nikki

    1. The pork rind thing is confusing-Because when I sat in a refresher, Julie spoke about how they can be crushed up and used to "bread" things, like chicken, for "fried chicken"!!!!! Also, a gentleman who sat next to me told her he used them for salsa when he wanted to "dip" stuff. So, maybe something has changed, and Julie rethought this. If you think about it, they are just puffed pork skin, and Julie stated that as long as your doctor was ok with you eating chicken skin, she wouldn't tell us not to eat that either. I don't really see the difference. So, I used them throughout my weight loss! My friend is going for a refresher in a couple of weeks and she will ask then as well. So, what to do, what to do? Hold on to the bags that I have, I guess!

  4. I was curious about those too, especially since to me it's more a snack food. I'm sometimes not hungry (I never that before) for breakfast and will be out for a while so I have pepperoni chips. I put them on a plate with a couple paper towels and microwave for about 1 minute, depending on how many and they're snappy like chips. These are once in a great while thing. I keep a snack bag on hand to grab and go and sometimes by the time I have them, they're soggy.

Another "chip"-like thing I have done, which has worked for me at parties is to bake kale chips. Just tear the leaves from the stems, put them on a cookie sheet and spritz (VERY LIGHTLY) with olive oil, salt, and pepper - stick in the oven at 350 for about 12-15 minutes and you have crispy light kale chips. They're too delicate to use with dip but definitely provide that 'crunch' that I sometimes look for. ~ Nikki

    2. Thanks for the kale chip recipe. I keep meaning to try this and still haven't done this. This sounds like an easy way to add veggie to meals: bake once and you have them ready at any time!
