Ok, by now you all know I am weird. I blogged about crossing my legs for the first time, about my food dreams, panicking when I found out the corn I ate had sugar in it, being a food-aholic and about all kinds of off the wall topics.
Well, why change my format now?
This one is a good one!!
Now that I have lost weight, I don't know what size I am anymore. (wait it gets better)
BUT the worst thing is:
When I go into a store to try on clothes ( are you ready for this one?) I DON'T KNOW WHERE TO GO!!!
Let me explain:
When I was a size 24 I knew to walk into the Women's dept. Plus sizes, I could easily find it.
Now, I have no idea where I am supposed to shop!
I went to Kohls the other day, I was so confused I walked out. I am not plus, or am I, am I womens', or misses, what in the world is Juniors. AND WHY DON'T THEY HAVE THE DEPARTMENTS MARKED WITH WHAT THEY ARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am serious. There are women's size 16's and there are just size 16's. Whats up with that? Then I have discovered there are all kinds of size Large. Some larges fit me great, others I can't get over my head! Some 16's are huge and others are to tight. All from different departments.
Then throw in petites!!! Last I knew that was for short people, has that changed?
Am I the only one that can't figure out the size specifications?
Whats the code? Whats the secret? What do other women know that I don't? What am I missing?
I did find 2 jackets at Kohls (love those 30% off coupons). I think I was in the misses section, maybe it was woman's, probably maternity for all I know. They were a large. But the larges on the other side of the store I couldn't get my arms in.
So thus is my dilemma!
And there is no way I am asking anyone where I should go! (they might tell me where to go! LOL)
Going to try Sears sometime, hope it isn't as confusing as Kohls was!
So I think we are all living in parallel universes. When Julie asked me, in the first session, what size I wanted to be I had no earthly idea. For all of my life I have bought "alternative" clothing, in boutiques mainly, and they come in small, medium and large. Never numbered sizes.
ReplyDeleteSo, I said a consistent small for bottoms, and a consistent large for tops (however much weight I lose my "girls"keep doing their Mae West imitation...well maybe Mae West once her nipples starting heading south).
But I decided today that I should have some idea of what size I am and that I should buy a pair of "measuring pants" - i.e. regular slacks or jeans with a zipper or buttons, so that I can tell when things are changing. I went to TJMAxx figuring I could pick up something cheap.
Now I remember what I never wore women's jeans or slacks even when I was at my lowest weight. I don't know who they fit...they must fit a lot of people, because otherwise they wouldn't make them like that right? But they don't fit me. If they are big enough at the hips they are humongous on my legs, the crotch either makes me look like an old man with a goiter or gives me camel's toes.
And yes-what exactly is the code? I'm short and round. No one seems to think that combination should exist. I guess I must have been kidnapped from another planet and if I could find my way back clothing would fit. First I looked in the unnamed section-wasn't "Juniors", wasn't "Petites". Abysmal failure. Then I tried in "Misses"...goiters and camels again.
So I went grocery shopping instead. I know what to buy there and where to find it, and decided that I'll use a measuring tape or something to keep track of myself.
EVA!!! You are hysterical!! Camels or goiters!!! LOL!!!!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE how you went grocery shopping instead!!! That is true, I so know what to buy there and what departments to head for!!!
Hopefully someday we will have that code figured out!!!
Was it you that suggested the Key Hypnosis fashion show! Now that would be fun!
I have come to the conclusion that Julie asks us to give her a number, but, in the fashion world, that number really doesn't exist. It is a farce! You could ask to be a size 00 (which someone asked for in my refresher-Remember her, JoAnne?!?!?!), but, what the h e double hockey sticks is that? Anyways, it seems it will always (and I hate using the word always) be troublesome to buy clothes. At least, since February of this year I have struggled. Once you do find something that fits, I can only suggest that you buy one of every color, as I have. I found a pair of pants at JCP, and stupid me didn't buy all the colors. Went back, and they no longer make that pair of pants! Out of luck! Oh well. No rhyme or reason. I wonder if "skinny" people always had it figured out? I tend to think not with the amount of clothes I always see in the changing rooms waiting to find their way back to their respective (yeah, right) racks....What also has happened to me is SHRINKAGE! Found some pants at Target, bought 3 pair, all different colors (NO BLACK!!!!!), and after only 2 washes, they do not fit like they used to....I am almost ready to venture into Ann Taylor to spend a little more, assuming that more money spent means better made clothes.....Theresa said they tend to be as true to a size as anyone has found out there...I agree that grocery shopping is still more fun....I think I might go check out True Value too and see what that kind of shopping is all about.....
ReplyDelete00???!!!! The only double zero I know about is 00 Italian flour, great for making pizzas with. Did this woman want to disappear?
DeleteJennifer, it sounds like you have reached your target, if you are buying doubles and triples of things. I still have a ways to go, but have bought a few smaller things, since I could.
I used to buy at Ann Taylor, years ago. At that point their clothing was well made, but incredibly expensive, and if you were over a size 8 they made you feel like a freak of nature.
Still do most of my shopping in local boutiques, places that carry less traditional, less mass-produced clothing. The quality is better and there is more awareness of different sizes and shapes.
Eva
Look at it on the bright site, when we no longer have to shop at specialty large clothing stores. This problem with sizes is a good thing. Lane Bryant and other larger women's stores are mainly right on size with most of their line, with some exception. I'd rather be frustrated figuring out if I'm at 6, 8, small, medium, or petite any day!
ReplyDeleteYou know how Julie has us vision what we want to look like? Maybe that's how we should be shopping! Try on everything we like until we find the look we want. I used to window shop in Christopher & Banks all the time. I would tell myself that when I lost weight I would shop there (I wasn't spending that kind of $$ on big clothes!) Since reaching my goal size, I haven't bought one thing there! Even though I know I would fit into their size 4! Don't know why....LOL I used to think shopping for smaller sizes would be so much easier; it's not!
